Army ATC 40

APV developed first-ever simulated Air Traffic Control (ATC) Operator – Non-Radar Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) course incorporating Level 3 Interactive Multimedia Instruction utilizing 2D and 3D interactivity for the US Army Aviation Center and School at Ft. Rucker, AL, for soldiers in Advanced Individual Training in Air Traffic Control. The instruction, which previously was delivered using chalk / dry-erase boards and paper-based training materials, now with the new developed courses includes use of a virtual reality environment and Oculus technology. The learner is placed at their control terminal inside the virtual Air Traffic Control Tower. The interactive simulation enables the instructor to stimulate learning by manipulating several variables of the Virtual Reality environment such as the number of aircraft (fixed and rotary-wing) in the traffic pattern, day/night conditions, clouds, sunlight direction and intensity, rainfall, fog, etc. These web-based course help ensuring that our soldiers are mission-ready.
